14th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas

The city of Bengaluru is all set to host the 14th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, PBD Convention beginning tomorrow. The first day of the annual event is dedicated for the youth. The theme of the Youth PBD progamme is ‘Role of Diaspora Youth in the Transformation of India’. Vice President of Suriname Michael Ashwin Adhin will deliver a keynote address in inaugural Session of Youth PBD. 

Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah and Minister of State for External Affairs Gen V K Singh will also address the session. Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel will chair the session. Three plenary sessions are also scheduled for the Youth PBD. 1st session is on reaching out to Indian Students Abroad and NRI and OCI Students in India, 2nd is Start-ups and Innovations and 3rd is on Start-up ecosystem in Karnataka.


Speaking to AIR, Industry Minister of Karnataka R V Deshpande said, 14 states of the country are participating in the event. He said, Karnataka will showcase its strength of start-ups and innovation during the event. The main convention will be inaugurated on Sunday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Portuguese Prime Minister Dr Antonio Costa will be the Chief Guest of the event. 

President Pranab Mukherjee will grace the valedictory ceremony and will confer Pravasi Bhartiya Samman on Monday. The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention is a very important platform for engagement of the government of India and the state governments with the overseas Indian Community. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has been held traditionally on 9th January every year to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi as a Pravasi from South Africa to India.
