COMMISSIONING OF 4 th INSHORE SHORE PATROL VESSEL (IPV)ICGS RANI GAIDINLIU

 – 19 OCT 161. The Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Rani Gaidinliu, of the Indian CoastGuard was commissioned at Visakhapatnam by Director GeneralRajendra Singh, PTM, TM, Director General Indian Coast Guard in thepresence of Inspector General Rajan Bargotra, TM Commander CoastGuard Region (East ) and other senior dignitaries of the Central and StateGovt. The ship has been named after famous freedom fighter RaniGaidinliu from Manipur.2. The 51 mtr Fast Patrol Vessel, ICGS Rani Gaidi nliu, the fourth of itsclass has been designed and built indigenously by M/s Hindustan ShipyardLimited. The vessel is equipped with the most advanced and sophisticatednavigational and communication sensors and equipment. The ship ispropelled by three MTU 4000 series Diesel engines of 2720 KW capacityat 2100 rpm each coupled with three 71S2 Rolls Royce Kamewa Jets andcan achieve a maximum speed of 34 Knots. This is the 4th Fast PatrolVessel (FPV) among the five vessels being constructed by HindustanShipyard Ltd. Speaking during the commissioning of the vessel, DirectorGeneral Indian Coast Guard lauded the efforts of the Coast Guard inguarding the coastal security.

Explaining the role of ICGS Rani Gaidinliu, the Director GeneralIndian Coast Guard said that the FPV will primarily focus on surveillance atthe sea, coastal patrol, anti smuggling operations, protection of fishermenapart from the routine search and rescue operations. He emphasised it asyet another defining moment in the annals of Indian ship building industryand is testimonial to our indigenous ship building capability which furtherbolsters the nation’s ‘Make in India’ campaign. The Indian Coast Guardare well on its way to self reliance by committing themselves to the path ofindigenisation, said the Director General Indian Coast Guard on theoccasion. He also added that, the changed security scenario in themaritime domain dictates the need for coastal security 24x7 basis wherein,the Coast Guard have to maintain a constant vigil.4. ICGS “Rani Gaidinliu” has a complement of 05 officers and 34 menand is commanded by Commandant(JG) Ramesh V Talke. The ship will bebased at Krishnapatnam under the administrative and operational control ofthe Commander, Coast Guard Region (East).5. ICGS Rani Gaidinliu on joining will enhance Coast Guard’s capabilityin furthering its mandate of maritime safety, security of the eastern seaboard
