AAP to launch nation-wide protest on 21st Jaunuary on the issue
Aam Aadmi Party today demanded immediate sacking and arrest of Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya for driving a Dalit student to suicide in Hyderabad. Addressing a press conference Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Sanjay singh said that party would launch a nation-wide protest against persecution of Dalit students and forcing one of them to commit suicide.
"Dalits have faced persecution after Narendra Modi's government came to power at the Centre. There are several instances, including those in BJP ruled Haryana, where Dalits were targeted, persecuted and even murdered. The incident of driving a Dalit student to suicide in Hyderabad is more shocking because two union ministers are involved in the unfortunate incident. Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya misused his political clout to crush Dalit students' movement in Hyderabad University. He got these students suspended. The matter did not end there. Dattareya also got the Vice Chancellor of the university to issue orders banning the suspended Dalit students from visiting public places in the university premisses. The students could not go to places like canteens and play grounds. They were also thrown out of their hostels and were forced to spend nights under the open sky," said Sanjay Singh.
Showing a letter written by Bandaru Dattatreya to HRD Minister Smriti Irani, Sanjay Singh said,"In his letter to the HRD Minister, Dattatreya called these students anti-national, extremist and casteist. This shows the mind set of Modi government, which has a clear bias against the Dalits and the down-trodden. The Aam Aadmi party will carry out nation-wide protest on 21st january. AAP volunteers across the country will organize protests in all state capitals and district headquarters demanding immediate sacking and arrest of Hyderabad University's VC and Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya. We also demand that HRD Minister Smriti Irani's role should also be probed."
Sanjay singh said that Modi government is systematically harassing the Dalits, OBCs and minorities and is trying to create an environment of fear and distrust. Modi government is working on implementing RSS's hidden agenda of dividing the society on communal and casteist lines. BJP's politics of hatred has been rejected by the people of Delhi and Bihar. All sections of society had voted for Narendra Modi with great hope, but the Modi government has let down the nation, he added.
