Japan’s lawmakers have enacted a bill to promote Japanese pop culture abroad. The legislation will help finance businesses operating in cultural industries globally.The bill passed on Wednesday, a public-private sector body will be set up by the end of this year. The government will hold at least a 50-percent stake.
The organization will help the government capitalize on the international appeal of Japanese culture as one of the pillars of its economic growth plan.
Companies that qualify for financial help include those distributing Japanese animation and movies online.
The body will also support businesses that operate Japanese restaurants or clothing retailers overseas.
