Nation pays homage to Indira Gandhi on death anniversary

The nation remembers former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 28th death anniversary today with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh paying homage to the departed leader.

President, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were among the first who paid floral tributes at her Samadhi ,Shakti Sthal,in New Delhi Wednesday morning .
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna were also present on the occasion.
Union Ministers Sushul Kumar Shinde, Salman Khurshid, M Veerappa Moily, Kamal Nath, P K Bansal and Narayana Swamy and Deepa Dasmunsi and Chiranjeevi also joined a large number of people who paid tributes.
Devotional songs were played at the venue.
A speech by Indira Gandhi was also played on the occasion.
Several functions are being organized across the country to mark the occasion.
Sonia Gandhi to give away 27th Indira Gandhi Award to Gulzar
Renowned poet and film-maker Gulzar has been selected for the 27th Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi will give away the 27th Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration to the 75-year-old lyricist and writer today in recognition of his yeoman work in promoting and preserving spirit of national integration in the country.

The award instituted in the name of late Indira Gandhi is given in recognition to outstanding contribution to this cause by individuals or institutions.
