World Bank Concern on the Pace of Highway Projects

World Bank Criticism on the Pace of Projects The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of National Highways. As regards projects under National Highways Development Project, in the year 2008 World Bank expressed concern over slow progress in five packages of Lucknow-Muzaffarpur National Highway project (under world Bank Loan No. 4764-IN).

  World Bank expressed its concern related to poor performance of contractors, work site safety arrangement, contract management. Consequently, the four poor performing packages (WB-9, WB-10, WB-11 and WB-12) in the State of Bihar were delinked from the World Bank loan assistance after restructuring the loan.

This information was given by the Minister of State of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Jitin Prasada, in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
