SAMDANI ART FOUNDATION

Samdani Art Foundation is a not-for-profit art infrastructure development organization, involved in promoting Bangladeshi contemporary art in the international arena. It was founded in 2011 by the collector couple, Nadia & Rajeeb Samdani, who share a staggering commitment to uplifting the arts. With the goal of creating an international platform for emerging artists and Bangladesh’s vibrant art scene as a whole, the foundation hosts several art-related activities through the year.  Its two flagship events are the Dhaka Art Summit and the Samdani Art Award.

DHAKA ART SUMMIT 2014

The groundbreaking Dhaka Art Summit invites art-lovers from all over the world to experience Bangladesh’s expansive visual culture – from folk art to video installations, under one roof. Funded by the Samdani Art Foundation, the Dhaka Art Summit provides a free showcase for local artists and unprecedented access to the international market.

The second session of the Dhaka Art Summit will take place in Febrary 2014.  Alongside local galleries, the Samdani Art Foundation will invite several international galleries and curators to participate in the Summit, and curate various shows in collaboration with local curators at the Summit venue. These exhibitions will focus on the work of contemporary South Asian artists.

The first Dhaka Art Summit took place in April 2012 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and saw a footfall of over 50,000 people. It included major curated exhibitions and showcased over 249 artists from across Bangladesh – including Zainul Abedin, Shahabuddin Ahmed, Naeem Mohaiemen, Mahbubur Rahman, Tayeba Begum Lipi, and more. Concurrently, the Bangladesh National Museum held an exhibition of Bangladeshi Modern Masters (which attracted 20,000 visitors), and the highly-regarded independent artist space, Britto Arts Trust, curated an exhibition of contemporary Bangladeshi art.  The Summit’s accompanying programme of talks was attended by over 500 people.

FELLINIANA
Fellini’s Dream

A theatrical journey through Federico Fellini’s world, characters and visions

by Teatro Potlach

Director: Pino Di Buduo
Playwright: Stefano Geraci

with: Daniela Regnoli, Nathalie Mentha, Andrea Adriani, Paolo Summaria, Stefano Di Buduo, Zsofia Gulyas, Gaudi Tione Fanelli, Simona Zanini and Gabriel Delfino

6th January, 2013, 7:00pm

Kamani Auditorium, 1 Copernicus Marg, New Delhi

Just as though they were on an imaginary film set, the characters from the world of Luci del Varietà (Variety lights), Lo sceicco bianco (The White Sheikh) and the legendary Frou Frou from I Clowns (The Clowns), transport us into the world of Federico Fellini’s films. The sounds of a waltz by Strauss introduce us to the blind princess in the film E la nave va (And the ship sails on) who is capable of perceiving and describing all the nuances of the colours of music. One experiences the loneliness of Casanova, the famous lover who by now only dances with a doll, then there is the fatigue of Ginger and Fred and finally Amarcord. After all their grotesque and moving stories have been told, all the characters find themselves gathered together in the final carousel of Fellini’s 8 e mezzo (8 and a half), with snow, wind, fog and all those special effects so dear to the magical world of Fellini’s cinema.

Event organised by Istituto Italiano di Cultura in collaboration with Teatro Potlach and National School of Drama.

Entry by tickets only. The tickets are available at the National School of Drama.

President reached an agreement with Republicans and Democrats in Congress on the “fiscal cliff”

Naresh Sagar”
Obama - Biden
Naresh –The President reached an agreement with Republicans and Democrats in Congress on the “fiscal cliff” that prevents a tax hike on 98 percent of Americans and 97 percent of small businesses, while fulfilling the President’s promise to ask the wealthiest Americans to begin to pay their fair share to reduce the deficit. President Obama recorded a video to update supporters like you on what’s in the agreement and what it means for you — watch it and share it with friends and family:
It’s thanks to people like you who spoke up and contacted your members of Congress throughout this debate that we were able to avoid a crippling tax hike.
As we address our ongoing fiscal challenges, the President will do exactly what he said he would on the campaign trail — working for the middle class and all those fighting to get into it, and building an economy from the middle out, not the top down.
There will be more soon. For now, thanks for all you do, and happy new year.

Sales of new vehicles in France reported 15-year worst drop  shrinking to 13.9 percent due to uncertain economic growth and weakening purchasing power that kept consumers on edge, French car sales federation (CCFA) said on Wednesday.

Putin Signs Belarus Gas Agreements
Russian President Vladimir Putin has endorsed agreements on deliveries of natural gas to Belarus in 2013.
The ratification act that Putin signed sets out the formula for the price of gas Belarus imports for domestic consumption in 2013 and subsequent years, tying it to the price of gas for consumers in Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, according to the document, published on Russia's official legal information website.
It also defines the tariffs for gas transportation by Belarusian pipeline operator Beltransgaz – which is wholly owned by Russia’s Gazprom - both on gas delivered to domestic customers and gas destined for export beyond Belarus.
Under the agreements, Beltransgaz will transit up to 60 billion cubic meters of Russian gas in 2013, an amount representing 134.8 percent of the target for 2012, to its borders with Lithuania, Ukraine and Poland.
