Dear Naresh, where after all do Universal human rights begin?

Dear Naresh,
“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home…where every man, woman, and child seeks equal justice, equal opportunity, and equal dignity without discrimination…Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.”
This was the wisdom of Eleanor Roosevelt, a principle architect of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted sixty-nine years ago today. She understood the power of American leadership—she personified it—and she knew that the most effective way to lead is by example—by living our values.
And yet on this Human Rights Day, we are witnessing a stunning abdication by the United States of its historical leadership role in the world, leaving a vacuum that authoritarians and tyrants are rushing to fill. When President Trump cozies up to dictators, alienates our allies, and denies protection to vulnerable refugees, he undermines the international structures and norms that have helped secure American interests for decades.
You and I have a different vision: We know that respect for human rights is not some fuzzy sentiment; it is the foundation of peace, justice, and security.
That’s why today we celebrate the brave and generous men and women like you—veterans, lawyers, corporate leaders, people of faith, activists—all over our country who are working alongside us to protect human rights and defend American ideals.
Thank you!
Elisa Massimino

Israeli strike on Gaza after rocket attacks

Two militants were killed and at least 25 people have been injured, including six children, after the Israeli Air Force bombed alleged Hamas targets inside Gaza. The airstrikes were in retaliation for 3 rocket attacks launched at Israeli territory.
“In response to the projectiles fired at Israel from Gaza earlier today, IAF aircraft targeted a Hamas training compound & an ammunition warehouse in the Gaza Strip,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Twitter. “The IDF holds Hamas solely responsible for all hostile acts against Israel emanating from the Gaza Strip.” It went on to say the retaliatory strikes targeted “two weapons manufacturing sites, a weapons warehouse, a military compound”.

No plans for Serbia to join NATO

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told TASS on Friday that his country is on the European path, but it does not want to join NATO. “Ten days ago, I was in Brussels, at NATO’s headquarters, and told the 29 leaders… that Serbia has no intention of joining NATO,” he said in Belgrade, adding that “Serbia will maintain its military neutrality.” He also said ahead of his visit to Moscow that Belgrade did not impose sanctions on Moscow and will not do that in the future. “No pressure can make us change our position,” he added.

EU, Japan conclude talks FTA

The EU and Japan have concluded negotiations on a free-trade deal to create the world’s largest open economic area, signaling their rejection of the more protectionist stance of US President Donald Trump, Reuters said. The two parties said on Friday that negotiators had now finished a legal text that would open up trade for economies that make up around 30 percent of global output. The agreement, combining the 28 EU states and the world’s third-largest economy, will remove EU tariffs of 10 percent on Japanese cars and the 3-percent rate typically applied to car parts. Japan had been one of the signatories of the planned Trans-Pacific Partnership, a massive 12-nation trade alliance that Trump ditched on his first day in office.

Rouhani:Ready to restore ties with Saudi Arabia

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said, his country is ready to restore ties with Saudi Arabia. In a speech today, Mr Rouhani said the regional rivals could have good relations if the Saudis end what he termed ‘false friendship’ with Israel and halt the bombardment of Yemen, where a Saudi-led coalition is battling Iranian-allied rebels known as Houthis.
Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran in January last year after Iranian demonstrators attacked Saudi diplomatic missions in response to the Saudi execution of a prominent Shiite dissident cleric. Tensions spiked again last month after the Houthis fired a ballistic missile that was intercepted near Riyadh. Saudi Arabia does not recognise Israel, but the two countries have a shared interest in countering Iran.

M Dharma emerges champion at CG Open 2017 after playoff win over Sanjeev Kumar

Dharma moves up to fourth in PGTI Order of Merit

Mumbai, December 9, 2017: Bengaluru golfer M Dharma’s aggressive approach paid off as he triumphed at the Rs. 1 crore CG Open 2017 after defeating Lucknow’s Sanjeev Kumar in a playoff.

The two golfers headed for a playoff after being tied at the top at 16-under-264 after the regulation 72 holes were completed at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club (BPGC) in Mumbai.

M Dharma (67-66-64-67), lying overnight tied second and two off the lead, collected three birdies on the first five holes to rise into contention early in the day. But the match almost slipped out of his hands when he double-bogeyed the 15th after an error in club selection.

However, Dharma roared back with a brave bogey on the 18th to take the match into a playoff. Dharma’s opponent in the playoff would be Sanjeev Kumar (66-67-67-64), who himself produced a bogey-free round of 64 that featured some brilliant chipping and long conversions.

The second playoff hole (on the 18th) turned out to be decisive after both players made birdies on the first playoff hole. Both players landed their drives in the fairway bunker, but Sanjeev, searching for his maiden title, decided to lay up and was well short of the green.

An aggressive Dharma on the other hand went for the green with his second shot and landed just short of it. While Sanjeev struggled thereafter as he hit it over the green, Dharma made an up and down for birdie to capture his second title which was also his first in four years.

Dharma said, “My aggressive play really paid off for me today. I first went for the flag on the final hole in regulation as I knew I had to make an eagle to get in the playoff. I managed to do that. Then finally, I played my second shot on the decisive playoff hole for a win and again pulled it off.

“I was solid all through and didn’t think too much about the scores but I attacked only when it really mattered. My ball-striking was the best aspect of my game as I made at least 15 regulations in each round.

“It’s great to win after so long. This now gives me the opportunity to contend for the PGTI Order of Merit. I produced five top-10s in the season prior to this event but was just not able to break that victory barrier. I’m glad I’ve finally done it,” added Dharma, whose winning purse of Rs. 15 lakh lifted him from 13th to fourth place in the PGTI Order of Merit.

Sanjeev Kumar posted his fourth top-5 and second runner-up finish of the season. He now occupies eighth place in the money list.

Delhi’s Shamim Khan regained his lead in the Order of Merit thanks to his tied third finish at 15-under-265 along with Kolkata’s Viraj Madappa and Sri Lankan Mithun Perera.

Ahmedabad-based Udayan Mane conceded his lead in the Order of Merit and dropped to second place after finishing one shot behind Shamim in tied sixth this week.

Delhi’s Veer Ahlawat, the third round leader, also took a share of sixth place at 14-under-266.

Mumbai players Anil Bajrang Mane (three-under-277) and Akash Modi (21-over-301) finished tied 28th and 60th respectively.

Under Right to Education children have right to be admitted to nearest school and fees charged at per paying potential of the family. Rich & Poor should grow together in a community not segregated on Income Basis. Delhi should provide Science Talent Scholarships to 5000 Students because Science Education is Unaffordable for most.
