Programme Overview:

UNICEF India and Indian Medical Association (IMA) are organizing a press conference to launch Ten Key Action Points that every doctor must know’ handling cases of Child Sex Abuse (CSA) on Wednesday, February 25 at 12.00 P.M. at theRussian Centre of Science and Culture. The initiative on CSA aims to provide medical practitioners, a detailed understanding of child sexual abuse (CSA) along with relevant legal provisions when treating such cases.

The interaction will look at how UNICEF in consultation with IMA and media partners, will work together to strategize and build a nation-wide cadre of doctor-trainers who can later disseminate the knowledge at different levels. Under the supervision of IMA state branches, these doctor-trainers are then expected to replicate the trainings at state and district level

To assist these trainers, UNICEF in consultation with IMA is providing technical support for the initiative. So far, a Teaching Manual, and Key messages for doctors have been prepared for wide dissemination. These messages will be distributed to more than 2.3 lakh medical doctors through 29 state level branches and 1700 district branches of IMA.

Who: IMA Honorary Secretary General Padma Shri Awardee Dr. K. K. Aggarwal  and Ms. Dora Giusti, Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF India will address the press. Padma Shri Awardee Dr A M Pillai national President IMA will be live on skype and Dr Rajeev Seth an Expert from AIIMS and Padma Vibhushan Awardee Sonal Man Singh.
