Why are BJP, Cong afrai d of deman ding assem bly disso lutio n ?
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) challenges the BJP and the Congress to give it in writing to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi that they want the state assembly to be dissolved and make a similar statement before the Supreme Court.
The AAP finds the statements of state presidents of both, the BJP and the Congress, extremely amusing that they are ready for elections.
In case of BJP, if it is ready for elections, then the people of Delhi can get a chance to elect a new government of their choice within no time, since all that is required is that the BJP has to ask the union home ministry of its own party government to seek a report from the LG recommending dissolution of the assembly.
If the home ministry directs the LG to send a report, it can be placed before the union cabinet soon and the President’s rule can be revoked in Delhi and assembly dissolved during the ongoing budget session of the Parliament itself.
Therefore, if the BJP state President is serious in demanding fresh assembly elections, and is not hoodwinking the people, the stalemate can be resolved in no time.
It is a different matter, though that the BJP has far resisted the dissolution of the assembly in the Supreme Court so far. In the petition filed by the AAP in the Supreme Court, the BJP lawyers have been consistently maintaining that all options should be explored.
On the other hand, the Congress has been speaking in different voices inside and outside the Supreme Court. Not once in the court, since last five months during the ongoing hearing in the case, has the Congress lawyer demanded dissolution of the assembly.
The Congress leaders have been talking in contradictory voices over the Delhi assembly issue. If the Delhi state Congress chief is not joking, and is serious about fresh elections, then what is preventing him from meeting the LG and handing over a letter seeking dissolution of the assembly ?
The false bravados being shown by the BJP and Congress leaders is of no meaning if they can’t translate their words into action and the AAP dares them to do so.
The only option in Delhi is fresh elections and BJP, Congress should give up their reluctance to face the voters.
