Ukraine : Russia sending tanks

US official has urged Russia to immediately stop supplying weapons to separatists in eastern Ukraine.
State Department spokesperson Marie Harf said on Friday that 3 tanks, several rocket launchers and other military vehicles had crossed into Ukraine from Russia during the past 3 days.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko accused Russia of allowing tanks
to cross the border into eastern Ukraine. A spokesperson at the
Ukrainian presidential office said Poroshenko raised the allegation in
telephone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday. The
spokesperson said Poroshenko told Putin that the situation was
unacceptable.State Department spokesperson Marie Harf said on Friday that 3 tanks, several rocket launchers and other military vehicles had crossed into Ukraine from Russia during the past 3 days.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov also said in a news conference that pro-Russian militants based in a border area had brought in tanks from across the border with Russia.
But it is unclear whether the tanks belong to the Russian military.
Reuters news agency has reported that three tanks were seen in a Ukrainian town bordering Russia. Its reporter was told by a member of a pro-Russian militant group who watched them pass by that they had been taken from a warehouse.
Government troops and pro-Russian militants continue fighting in eastern Ukraine.
President Poroshenko says he cannot condone the current situation in view of rising casualties and that Kiev wants to achieve a ceasefire within this week. But the prospects remain uncertain.Media agencies

Thai government lifts curfew nationwide Thailand’s military
government has lifted a nationwide curfew on Friday, citing an easing of
tensions.
The curfew had been in place throughout the country, including the capital Bangkok, since May 22nd when the military took power in a coup d’etat.
Later, the curfew was reduced from seven to 4 hours starting at midnight. It was lifted in tourist enclaves before other areas.
The military government had said the lifting of the curfew also applies to Bangkok where anti-coup demonstrations have taken place…and in northern Thailand where former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has many supporters.

Afghanistan, polling begins for second round of Presidential elections |

Afghanistan, polling has begun for the second round of Presidential
elections amid tight security. None of the eight candidates for the top
post could secure more than 50 per cent of the total votes in the first
round of elections held on 5th of April, necessitating a runoff between
the top two candidates Abdullah-Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.To ensure transparency in the election process, large numbers of polling agents of the candidates as well as national and international observers have been authorized by the Afghan Election Commission to oversee the polling. The preliminary result of the runoff round will be announced on 2nd of July and the final result will come out on 22nd July. |

Barring Opposition Aung San Suu Kyi from standing for President.

Myanmar, a Parliamentary Committee has voted to retain a
constitutional clause barring Opposition Leader Aung San Suu Kyi from
standing for President. The clause bans those with non-Myanmar partners
or children from running. Ms Suu Kyi’s late husband and two children are
British citizens.
Parliament must still vote on the ruling before it is final. Ms Suu Kyi has spent most of the last two decades under house arrest but was released in 2010. The next general election in Myanmar is due to take place in 2015. Ms Suu Kyi’s party, the National League for Democracy, is expected to do well, but may have to campaign knowing that she cannot become President.

PM Modi visiting INS Vikramaditya

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting INS Vikramaditya, country’s largest warship. Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Navy Chief R K Dhowan accompany him. Mr Modi was given a ceremonial guard of honour on his arrival at the warship. Mr Modi will witness air power demonstration by Naval Aircraft, including MiG 29K, Sea Harriers and Sea King helicopters. He will also watch high-speed manoeuvres by the western fleet ships, including aircraft carrier INS Viraat, Delhi-class destroyers and Talwar-class frigates. He is also scheduled to address officers and sailors of the Navy. AIR correspondent reports that the 44,500-tonne warship acquired from Russia was commissioned in the Navy in November last year by the then Defence Minister AK Antony. |
