GAIL picks up ‘Company of the Year’ awards in the three categories at PetroFed Awards 2012

New Delhi, June 28, 2013: GAIL (India) Limited has received Oil & Gas Pipeline Transportation Company of the year, besides Project Management (Rs 500 crore to Rs 2,000 crore category) of the year and the Environmental Sustainability of the year category. Mr. B C. Tripathi, CMD GAIL, along with Director (Projects), Director (Marketing), Director (Marketing), Executive Director (Projects), Executive Director (O&M), GM (CP) received these prestigious awards from Dr. M Veerappa Moily, Hon’ble Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas in the presence of Shri Vivek Rae, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and other champions of the industry during the Petroleum Federation of India (PetroFed) Oil & Gas Industry Awards 2012 held here.
In addition, Ms. Sandepa Trakroo, Chief Manager (Corporate Planning), GAIL, won the ‘Woman Executive of the Year in Oil & Gas Industry’ during the ceremony.
GAIL owns and operates a network of over 11,500 km of natural gas high pressure trunk pipeline with a capacity of approx. 220 MMSCMD of natural gas across the country.
During the period, GAIL completed commissioning of various pipeline networks and auxiliary systems having a length of more than 1,300 km including 610 km Dahej-Vijaipur Pipeline Phase-II, 126 km Karanpur-Muradabad-Kashipur Pipeline, 501 km Bawana-Nangal Pipeline, 52 km Agra-Firozabad expansion and connectivity to Meerut.
The company is currently implementing the Kochi-Koottanad-Bangalore-Mangalore Pipeline which will pass through Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Jagdishpur – Haldia Pipeline and Surat-Paradip Pipeline which will pass through Orissa, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. The company has also commissioned Dabhol-Bangalore Pipeline this year, significantly increasing its presence in south India. GAIL also owns and operates two LPG Pipelines transmission systems with a total length of 2,038 km.
GAIL won the ‘Company of the Year’ award in the Environmental Sustainability category in recognition of its key role in building sustainable energy future for the country. GAIL is a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact to further align its operations and strategies to the 10 universally accepted principles of UNGC. GAIL has also started Green House Gas (GHG) accounting for all its major sites and tied up with natural gas STAR programme under the aegis of Global Methane Initiative.
GAIL was adjudged the ‘Company of the Year’ in the Project Management (Rs 500 crore to Rs 2,000 crore) category for setting up commercial Wind Energy project of 100 megawatts. The project includes the 25.5 MW plant in Madurgudda, 12.6 MW plant in Sidnur (both in Karnataka), 24.65 MW plant in Palani, 25.5 MW plant in Periyapatti and 10.5 MW in Rastha (all in Tamil Nadu). The approved project cost was Rs 616 crores and it was completed in March 2012 as per schedule.
The recipient of the ‘Woman Executive of the Year in Oil & Gas Industry’, Ms. Sandepa Trakroo, is a Chemical Engineer from BITS, Pilani and also holds a post-graduate diploma in financial management. She has worked in GAIL for over 17 years and played a key role in formulation of long-term Strategy 2020 for GAIL to take the company from Rs 32,000 crore turnover in 2010-11 to Rs 130,000 crore by 2019-20.
GAIL has the distinction of being the only company in Asia to receive the ‘World No. 1 Company in Downstream Operations’ award for 2011 by Platts, a leading global provider of energy, petrochemicals, metals and agriculture information. GAIL was also ranked the number one gas utility in Asia in the Platts Top 250 Energy Companies Ranking in 2012.
