EU leaders meet in Brussels to bridge deep divisions over Budget

European Union leaders are meeting in Brussels to try to bridge deep divisions over the Union's budget for the next seven years. Britain and several other countries want the EU to cut its budget. The formal start of the summit was delayed by several hours as a series of bilateral meetings took place and serious difference emerged about the form of a possible compromise. UK Prime Minister David Cameron is still insisting that further cuts to the budget need to be made, others are resisting that. France's President Francois Hollande, opposes the deeper cuts urged by Mr Cameron. Mr Hollande signaled some readiness to compromise, but said he would not accept a budget that disregards agriculture and ignores growth.
