UNHRC: US resolution on Lanka and Statement of Dr. Subramanian Swamy

Statement of Dr. Subramanian Swamy : I agree with TN CM Jayalalitha' s assessment of the PM's statement, made in Lok Sabha yesterday while replying to the Motion on the President's Address. Ms. Jayalalitha had called the statement as a sham committed by the PM in order to enable the DMK to wriggleout their equally sham bravado of walking out of the UPA government.  The PM in fact has verbally bowled a googly which the LTTE supporters in India and abroad have foolishly rejoiced in.

The revised draft which the US will present tomorrow in UNHRC will be even more insipid than the US' first draft. In the new draft there will no hint of censure or punishment of the Sri Lanka President and will instead request the Sri Lanka Government to take remedial steps to rehabilitate the victims of the alleged human right excesses.

However I would still urge the PM to move an alternate Resolution that concentrates on devolution of powers to the Tamils within a united Sri Lanka before the end of this year. The US Resolution is completely one-sided, unconstructive, and sterile. This Resolution should be opposed. India should stop behaving like a concubine of the US especially in the SAARC region.
