World Badminton : Jwala, Ponnappa wins Bronze-Indian duo Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa had to content with a Bronze when they lost to Chinese fifth-seeded pair of Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei 21-14,21-16 in semi-final of the World Badminton championship women’s doubles in London .
The Commonwealth Games gold medalist pair etched their names in history books on Friday when they became the first Indian duo to ensure a medal in the tournament. Jwala and Ashwini's performance also ended India's 28 year medal drought in the flagship event.
India's only other medal in the championship came in 1983 Prakash Padukone bagged the men's singles bronze in Copenhengen, Denmark.
