September 2018 fiscal deficit stands at 95.3 % of actuals to BEs

The gross fiscal deficit of the Central government stands at 95.3% of the actuals to budget estimates (BEs) at the end of September 2018 as compared to 91.3% of the actuals to budget estimates in the corresponding period of the previous year. The primary deficit was registered at 699.9% of the actuals to budget estimates at the end of September 2018 as compared to 1164.7% of the actuals to budget estimates during corresponding period of the previous year.

The revenue receipts at the end of September 2018 of the central government stands at 40.1% of the actuals to budget estimates as compared with 41.1% of the actuals to budget estimates at the end of September 2017.

The government’s market borrowing stands at 86% of the actuals to budget estimates at the end of September 2018 as compared with 109% of the actuals to budget estimates at the end of September 2017. The domestic financing stands at 96% of the actuals to budget estimates at the end of September 2018 as compared to 93% of the actuals to budget estimates at the end of September 2017. The external financing of the government stands at 281% of the actuals to budget estimates at the end of September 2018 as against 34% of the actuals to budget estimates at the end of September 2017. The total financing of the central government stands at 95% of the actuals to budget estimates at the end of September 2018 as against 91% of the actuals to budget estimates at the end of September 2017.

Philips launches first start-up programme for AI in healthcare

The startup program at Philips Innovation Campus, Bangalore caters to innovation ecosystems across India, Japan, South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Middle East and Turkey

Philips announced the launch of their first global startup collaboration program involving Philips’ innovation hubs in Cambridge (US), Eindhoven, Bengaluru and Shanghai, focused on the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

The programme focuses on the application of AI-based clinical decision support tools, such as image interpretation, analysis and integration; and workflow tools like intelligent treatment plans for radiology, ultrasound and oncology. After careful analysis, the most promising 19 start-ups out of 750 applicants were selected for inclusion in Philips’ proven accelerator program for early-stage startup companies.

Srinivas Prasad, CEO Philips Innovation Campus, Bengaluru, said, “The Indian Start-up ecosystem is demonstrating an increasing trend of applications based on deep learning and AI in the healthcare domain. Philips is engaging with entrepreneurs who are developing AI-enabled solutions for improving clinical and operational outcomes. This year, the chosen start-ups are unique and the team at Philips Innovation Campus is committed to helping startups strengthen their value proposition and become successful sustainable businesses.”

The startup program at Philips Innovation Campus, Bangalore caters to innovation ecosystems across India, Japan, South East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, Middle East and Turkey.

The team screened more than 150 healthcare start-ups that had AI and radiology as part of their proposition and the most promising five start-ups joined the global cohort. They will now be coached and facilitated from Philips Innovation Campus, Bangalore and gain access to some of the best experts from the ecosystem.

Marching for a People’s Vote

Last Saturday many Renew members and supporters joined the march for a People’s Vote in London. Over 700,000 people attended, making this the largest political protest since the anti-Iraq War demonstrations in 2003. Thanks to everyone who came along and those who donated money to feature their name on our banner. Here are a few photos from the big day:

Renew in Brum

Away from the office, our leader Annabel Mullin travelled to Birmingham to visit Renew candidates and members, to hand out instructional tool-kits and to discuss plans for our National Assembly. Birmingham is a key regional hub for Renew but there are many more stops along the road — James Clarke is off to Nottingham today, while Annabel visits Manchester and Bristol next week.
